round and round we go, where hypocrisy stops, noone knows

You can support the troops but not the president
-Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)

[The] Presidentis once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nations armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy.
-Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)

American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy.
-Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)

If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy.
-Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W. Bush

I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginningI didnt think we had done enough in the diplomatic area.
-Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

Well, I just think its a bad idea. Whats going to happen is theyre going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years
-Joe Scarborough (R-FL)

I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our overextended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today
-Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)

Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?
-Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

Victory means exit strategy, and its important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is.
-Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)

This is President Clintons war, and when he falls flat on his face, thats his problem.
-Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN)

Bombing a sovereign nation for ill-defined reasons with vague objectives undermines the American stature in the world. The international respect and trust for America has diminished every time we casually let the bombs fly.
-Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)

google maps wisconsin disc golf courses

so i've done the first recreational programming in a little while. i program for work, and the weather's been nice, so i've not put myself in front of a monitor more than i've had to.

but check it out: i've used the new google maps API to make a webpage that displays detailed course info & driving directions on an active map.

here's a temporary link, I'll likely rename the app something else once it's almost finished.

summerfest's over for another year

and it was a pretty good one this year. on sunday i saw femi kuti, son of fela kuti, who i've blogged about before. he got some serious booty-shaking going on. it seems i go for the big brass / soul acts at summerfest.

weezer was good, but funk ruled the day. O-H-I-O!

summerfest always has some good funk acts. yesterday, i got to see the ohio players, Harvey Scales & The Seven Sounds, and weezer.

ohio funked it up BAD. stupid white midwesterners don't know what they got--the stage wasn't all that full, but the music n booty-shaking was right out of the ending to a national lampoon movie (er, like PCU or 'the great outdoors' w/ john candy). nothin beats a brass section that dances in-step.. 'cept maybe the frontman freakin a little james brown step.

weezer was good. they played their songs well, and they played a decent selection of favs n alts... didn't hear any of my fav besides from the first two albums, ohwell. they had an AWESOME stage-background with a color-changing luminescent sheet w/ an asian dragons & flowers theme. i think it's the bg to their new album too. couldn't see em all that well, but the shots that were put up on the videoscreens.. how do i put this.. they had a perfect asthetic. they LOOK the part.. i was never heavy into much alt/grunge music EXCEPT for weezer. i'm glad the look's not popular anymore, i didn't like it on other ppl, but i LIKE it on weezer. true indie rock nerds, they're not faking ^^ they only played for an hour tho -_-

stopped back to where the ohio players were, and they had another funk/soul act, 'Harvey Scales & The Seven Sounds', and BOY did THEY kick ass. they're a lot like the players: brass section, funkbass, frontman dancin' in a suit. they even had a hot chick in a tiny black tina-turner-esque dress shakin her booty. I only got there in time to hear the end of an al green 'love & happiness' cover, then they finished with a bang:
    fuckin 'do the boomerang'!!

i used to play that ALL the time on an old 45 jukebox my father had! apparantly, the original artist's (Junior Walker) son & grandson were there with Harvey.. he called them junior walker and junior crawler ^_^;;

so i go home thoroughly impressed with them, look em up, and no surprise--they're original members of the scene, headlining along with acts like ike & tina turner. i have a feeling it's going to be tough to get much of their music without dealing in hard-to-find old records... shame. i want it, but i dunno how much energy i'll throw at it.

funny the funk acts outshone the bigger act. weezer played perfect, did some cool extras like leaving the stage while their guitars were still in full-feedback on the last note they played.. but still. the funk acts both have 30 years of touring as professional showmen, they know how to play and work a crowd so well..

until demonstrated, one often forgets the vast difference between ameture and professional.

men's tastes are historically simple and constant..

.but like anything, we're trouble in groups~

during the building of the mackinac bridge that connects lower & upper michigan, the two tiny rural towns it connects suffered a mild culture shock as a flood of contractors came and went in the 50s.

"There was one place in town, what we called 'Lil's fatty hall'[sic]. An they get a plate of ribs, an a bath, an a blowjob for three dollars. And that made their night! ..an they might get two or three of em."
