improvement to google maps disc golf courses

changed my gmaps mashup, Google Maps Disc Golf Courses, a bit.

I've created a large enough iconset that now the site displays precise hole-counts instead of 0-9, 9-18, and 18+ hole courses.

i think i'm gonna make a course dropdownlist below the state dropdownlist that'll zoom and center the map on a course chosen from an alphabetical list.

any other reasonable improvements i should do? i'm too busy to take on the really major things i'd wanna do...

brown deer park tourney and manotowoc pix

The charity tournament at the old brown deer park course had a big turnout for as little as i heard about it ahead of time

a custom-made basket

trees aren't always a disc's enemy..

silver creek park in manitowoc. beach access from hole 10

view of hole 10

14's tee has a raised view of the lake

a nice sunny easter on the course

a shady rest spot near the cars where little kids play

picnic hill looks bigger than in this pic

my bag is visible at the top of the hill and is in the same spot in the next pic

happy to say i birdied with both the drives i threw

i was stunned to park this hole on the third attempt; it wasn't possible to show the hole well in photos. made this nice and tight putt for a birdie anyway.

didn't even have any trouble with this toughie. tough to get visible in a photo tho.

a very common view at this course

a nice quiet practice week

just discin n bummin at home, practicing up for standing rocks.

so i learned one of my favorite local courses has its' pins back in, valley view, though most my friends deem it a kiddie course. its' just like the one i started on, with vicariously fun midrange challenges around trees and elevation.

monday i tied my best there with EASE, -9. tues was windy and i played sucky for a -2or3. Thursday i left work a half our early, back to valley view, and beat my best for a -10 with a round that didn't even feel all that hot. lots better than the last times i've been there.. the drives i've practiced myself into are making it easy, but there's still tech shots that i still sometimes muff the first try.

that night, after eating with a friend, i got to working on some programming, and stayed up till about 4, then came in 11am for work, a light day, geting let out at 4. very nice to get a lotta good work done ahead to be in the clear for the weekend.

saturday there was a tournament at brown deer park, the fist frisbee golf course milwaukee had until it was pulled in the late 80s. my partner during the first round had an awesome hole in one. had fun tho i threw damn crappy the whole time, putts and drives. drove me crazy cuz i played well that week. not a good sign for SR. got 2 aviars and a spider. the spider's nice, and i'm gonna give aviars another chance on hyzer putts.. anhyzer puts are still ownzed by the stratus. got a hole in one at golden tee at a bar later that night.

sunday i slept in, then decided to head up to mannitowoc, where i hit silver creek park and had a -1 round from the pro tees.. parked my drives on 7 and 13, a blind long downhill late dogleg right, and a huge uphill curve to the right with a tremendously obstructive forest in the way. 20 mins north i hit picnic hill park, a cute 9er on a big hill with a watertower, and through the woods. REALLY fun, a valley view to match my improved skills (and an apartment to rent between hole 1 and 2.. droool...), i parked every hole on at least one of the attempts i threw, though many of them i'd think it was try-all-day caliber. got some pix i'll have coming up.

so i found a nice sports bar open on the way home, on easter no less, and i had a nice steak dinner. came home, hit the hottub, now i'm pullin cherry turnovers outta the oven as i write this. num~ time for some tivo'd simpsons before bed!

happy easter!

Edited: Oh! I forgot! wed I played at mequon high school, and at the bin for hole 5, back by the soccer fields, several deer were munching on whatever. they got spooked off as we made eye contact over a hill, but they mustlve seen my discs land before that. so i sit down to take a peek at em, and one dotingly sneaks back and pokes his head around a tree to get a careful look at me. we exchange odd glances until the bugs start to bother me, and i get up and practice putting on the bin a bit. I'd've thought the chains banging would spook him, but he came closer and watched me play. didn't even run off when i made my drive to the next hole.. must've been some tasty stuff right there because he nibbled right by the bin long after i was gone.

spring break disc golf roadtrip photos

The first course we played, Kereiakes in Bowling Green KY. there was a major AM event going on that weekend, but we passed on it. Bowling Green was a little disappointing.

Cedar Hill in Nashville TN was awesome

Mando through the trees

A perfect anhyzer flick that S'ed through the trees and landed just a little long of the bin

Seven Oaks, also in Nashville TN, also kicked ass

Not a hole, but looking backwards from a tee at a potential huge safari hole

The Sinks in Chattanooga TN was created entirely by volunteers. personal touches abound, including this suicidal gnome.

The course shows a lot of care in non-monitary ways

Hole 18's a huge anhyzer through a hundred threatening little trees

I doctored these two images as best I could seeing as they were too dark. This is us on Lookout Mountain. You can see daytime pix of the same place in my Xmas roadtrip photos

Throwing a disc off the cliff.. maybe it made it the 1.5 miles downhill to the car?

More personal touches back at the Sinks

Water hazards frame the basket on either side

Victor Ashe in Knoxville TN has a beutiful first hole over water

Hole 12's a humoungous downhill throw with a creek running accross the middle

and of course Peck clears it on the first try

Looking back at the tee from the basket (by the big pines at the top)

ahh vacation

Renaissance in Charlotte NC is the most bomb-ass course.. Hole 2's pro basket demands you throw over a chasm to a raised basket

another view, pro basket at left, am basket at right, pro basket 18 visible in the middle at a distance

miss it and it's back in the ditch you go

gorgrous use of elevation and trees

are any tech companies in Charlotte hiring? preferably offering ample time off for disc golf ^_-

man, I almost made the putt before this from a mile away, but hit the basket and fell off the rock to my doom

Hole 18's fairway

with a chasm at right

pro basket on a slight outcropping of the far edge of the chasm

Hornets Nest in Charlotte NC was abuzz with people in a hundred different activities. There's a dirt bike track in the background.

dogwoods in bloom above tee 1. why am i in milwaukee again?

Birdied 17 and par'd a long 18 to end the trip. Peck birdied, I think it was 400+ foot hole, in front of a mini-audience of a minivan mom and her kids who were sitting there wondering what the basket was for)

We were supposed to play Cameron Yards, a lit course, at night, but we got started driving back instead. We didn't stop to play anything on the way back, and while we really got the most out of the time we had, and everything worked out flawlessly, it was of course way too short.
